日本で一番犯罪が多いところ（大阪のミナミ）に1年半ほど住んだ。そうしたら犯罪は全然多くなかった。僕はロサンジェルス出身で、犯罪が多いってことがどういうものかを良くわかっている。
　日本はクレジットカードが使えないところが多くあるので、現金を持ち歩く（500ドルとかを一度にだ）。ある日、ぼくは3万円をATMで引き出し、その場に忘れてきたことがあった。すると20分後に銀行から電話があって、誰かがATMでそれを見つけてすぐに銀行に返し、銀行はすぐに僕を割り出して口座に戻しておいたと言う。
　僕は地下鉄でカメラを2回も忘れ、両方戻ってきた。一度なんて酔っ払って倒れていたとき、目が覚めたらマクドナルドのセットが目の前に置かれていた。
